Tamo Junto Academy Rules

Train hard, be respectful, and have fun. Together we grow!

We want Tamo Junto BJJ to feel like your second home, a place where everyone feels welcome. These guidelines help us keep the mats clean, the training respectful, and the atmosphere positive so we can all get the most out of every class.

General Etiquette & Cleanliness

  • Keep our mats clean and safe: wear shoes or flip-flops when off the mat and never step on mats with footwear or go barefoot outside the training area.

  • Always wear footwear in the bathroom, and please leave it cleaner than you found it.

  • Toss used finger tape in the trash right after class.

  • During class, only instructors and coaches should introduce new techniques. Ask questions, stay engaged, and save your own teaching for open mat times.

Code of Conduct

  • Show kindness and respect to instructors, teammates, and visitors; on and off the mats.

  • We don’t use foul language.

  • Our team is for everyone! We welcome all backgrounds, ranks, and affiliations. Visiting athletes are part of the family while they’re here.

  • Greet your instructors and training partners with a handshake or fist bump when you first step on the mat.

  • Arrive at least 5 minutes early to get ready and start class on time.

Appearance & Hygiene

  • Keep your uniform fresh and in good condition. Wash it after every class.

  • Long hair? Tie it back. Nails? Keep them short and clean.

  • Remove all jewelry before training.

  • No socks while rolling unless there’s a health-related reason.

Sparring Guidelines

  • Safety is the top priority. Both partners are responsible for protecting each other. Release a submission as soon as a tap is felt or suspected.

  • Mix it up! Roll with different people and at least one new partner each class.

  • If you and another group bump into each other or roll out of bounds, stop and reset safely.

  • Heel hooks: never in the gi; in no-gi, only for purple belt and above with mutual agreement.

Health & Injury

  • If you’re sick or have a contagious skin condition, rest and recover before training.

  • Let your instructor know if you’re injured or will be away for a while.

Electronics & Social Media

  • Keep phones silent during class.

  • Represent the academy well online. No vulgar or inappropriate posts connected to TJBJJ. Keep your presence positive and professional.

Membership & Promotions

  • Keep your billing information up to date so your training stays uninterrupted.

  • Promotions aren’t just about skill, they reflect your attendance, teamwork, coachability, and attitude.

  • Show up, work hard, and help lift your teammates.
